I am sure many of you may have heard of the name Cody Simpson, know his music or have started to see him pop up in Jay Jays store windows as the face of their Summer 2012 campaign. The 15 year old who was discovered only about 4 years ago on YouTube is the Aussie answer to Justin Bieber and now resides in LA with his family. His catchy tunes have attracted a huge global following of over 3 million twitter followers, 3 million Facebook likes and over 125 million YouTube views. At only 15, we can only wonder how much bigger he will get! Check out his video of new hit single that just released - "Wish U Were Here"
The Jay Jays campaign was shot on location at Redondo Beach in LA. It features the Jay Jays coloured denim collection of over 30 colours, from super cool neon, delicious gelato pastels, punchy patterns, to wardrobe essential neutrals and bold, bright colours to add that on-trend pop of colour to summer wardrobes. Cody is a perfect fit for the youthful brand with their market targeting 16-18 year olds guys and girls.
I had a chance to have a quick chat with him on his favourite pieces from Jay Jays, his celebrity style icon, what he's got on next, how he keeps up to date with his fans and how he felt taking the title Favourite Aussie Superstar at Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards! Read the interview below.
BM: What are your favourite/key pieces from the new Jay Jays range for guys and for the girls? Also, out of all the coloured jeans, which one is favourite colour?
CS: All the coloured denim in the Jay Jays Summer range is perfect for me. This
is a huge trend in America and Europe right now. There are over 30 colours
in the range, its really hard to choose a favourite, I think I have every
pair so that's my touring wardrobe sorted! For girls, I love all the floral
print jeans in the Jay Jays Summer range - they look great.
BM: Who is your celebrity style icon?
CS: How could I go past Justin Timberlake. The man dresses well and he’s an amazing musician.
BM: With your music career and fan base ever-growing how do you keep up with it all and communicating to everyone via social media?
CS: I tweet for myself. I like to make sure all my messages to my fans are my
own words and it's so important to stay connected with my fans. I am
personal to a certain level to give my fans an insight as to what my life is
like, but I keep some things private, - you've got to keep a little mystery!
BM: What upcoming projects have you got coming up?
CS: My new album drops on October 2nd then a bunch of touring. The album is a
beachy pop album that shows my range from more guitar driven stuff to up
tempo dance records that make you just want to party. Between writing,
recording, touring and my commitments, like my new role with Jay Jays, I'm
fairly busy!
BM: How does it feel to beat fellow Aussies, Miranda Kerr and Hugh Jackman, taking the title of Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards for Favourite Aussie Superstar?
CS: It was such an honor to receive the award and I can't thank all the fans
enough. I'm such a big fan of both Hugh Jackman and Miranda Kerr, who have
been some of Australia's biggest icons since I was a kid. I actually
serenaded Miranda Kerr at the G'Day USA event which was pretty cool. She's a
Victoria's Secret Model - what more could you dream of!
